Canoe Trail reopens at Aberchalder

Canoe Trail reopens at Aberchalder

Mon 27 Apr 2015

Good news! The canal is now reopen to paddlers at Aberchalder Bridge following the recent breach at Cullochy weir, although there will be a final 1 day closure on Wednesday 29th April whilst a floating work platform and excavator removes the final parts of the temporary dam, bringing the canal channel back to its normal depth.  Paddlers should beware of boat traffic as they paddle under the bridge.

As large machinery continues to work on reconstructing Cullochy Weir, the area around the Canoe Trail pontoon at Aberchalder remains a work site and the pontoon and adjacent loading / parking area will not be in use for a few more weeks.

60 miles in 5 days

It is an epic 60 mile (95km) journey crossing Scotland in 5 days and conquering the formidable open waters of Loch Lochy and Loch Ness, a challenge in itself.

From South to North

It is normally easier to paddle the Trail from Fort William in the west to Inverness in the east with the prevailing wind behind you.
