Towpath to reopen at Kytra

Towpath to reopen at Kytra

Fri 05 Apr 2019

The Caledonian Canal towpath between Fort Augustus and Aberchalder bridge will re-open to Wayfarers (please note this is not applicable to paddlers) from Sunday 7th April 2019. As there will still be large plant and equipment operating at Kytra Lock for the next few weeks, wayfarers will need to be escorted through the worksite and should therefore expect minor delays. There will be signage at Cullochy and Fort Augustus to advise wayfarers of this

Please note the canal itself remains closed until the 17th April

60 miles in 5 days

It is an epic 60 mile (95km) journey crossing Scotland in 5 days and conquering the formidable open waters of Loch Lochy and Loch Ness, a challenge in itself.

From South to North

It is normally easier to paddle the Trail from Fort William in the west to Inverness in the east with the prevailing wind behind you.
