Wild campers urged to have ‘Plan B’ options

Wild campers urged to have ‘Plan B’ options

Fri 12 Jul 2013

The beautiful sunny, hot weather means that the Caledonian Canal and the Great Glen Canoe Trail are busier than ever. We've welcomed loads of paddlers in the last few weeks and we've got lots more registered to visit us in the next month.

The good weather has also meant that we've had more campers than usual and we've found the canalside camping spots, the Trailblazer Rest sites and many of the lochside wild camping spots have been very full.  We'd like to remind people that numbers of tents / campers at these sites are restricted and that to avoid disappointment (or even damage to the canalside / lochside environment), people should have a 'Plan B' option for where to pitch their tents.

Even better, why not try one of the great commercial campsites along the Glen?

60 miles in 5 days

It is an epic 60 mile (95km) journey crossing Scotland in 5 days and conquering the formidable open waters of Loch Lochy and Loch Ness, a challenge in itself.

From South to North

It is normally easier to paddle the Trail from Fort William in the west to Inverness in the east with the prevailing wind behind you.
