Winter Paddling Arrangements

Winter Paddling Arrangements

Fri 14 Dec 2018

We know some of you are hardy and like to get out in the cold weather to blow off the cobwebs and get back out into the open air. Therefore we would like to make you aware of what is happening over the Winter so you can maximize your time on the canal.

Our main closure of the canal for Winter works takes place between 4.00pm Wednesday 9th January 2019 to 9.00pm Monday 8th April 2019. We would like to advise that during this time there will be no access to paddle the canal between Cullochy Loch and Fort Augustus due to major works. However experienced white water paddlers may still be able to navigate the river Oich with appropriate planning. All other areas will be accessible for paddling so we hope that gives you plenty of areas to keep you busy.

Please note the office at Fort William will remain closed until Monday 8th April 2019 so facility access can only be arranged in advance at Inverness.

We hope you enjoy your Winter on the canal.

60 miles in 5 days

It is an epic 60 mile (95km) journey crossing Scotland in 5 days and conquering the formidable open waters of Loch Lochy and Loch Ness, a challenge in itself.

From South to North

It is normally easier to paddle the Trail from Fort William in the west to Inverness in the east with the prevailing wind behind you.
