Winter works at Aberchalder and Laggan bridges

Fri 06 Jan 2017

Due to engineering works by BEAR Scotland there will be no access to the water for boaters or paddlers at Aberchalder and Laggan swing bridges from Monday 9th January until Sunday 19th March 2017. Sea to sea transits for motorised craft needing to use the locks and bridges will also be unavailable during this period.  Access to the Great Glen Canoe Trail is unaffected but paddlers should take care when portaging around the bridges at Aberchalder and Laggan, and they should check with engineers on site that it is safe to proceed.

60 miles in 5 days

It is an epic 60 mile (95km) journey crossing Scotland in 5 days and conquering the formidable open waters of Loch Lochy and Loch Ness, a challenge in itself.

From South to North

It is normally easier to paddle the Trail from Fort William in the west to Inverness in the east with the prevailing wind behind you.
