Project Officer - Donald Macpherson

As part of the project to plan and coordinate all the works for the Canoe Trail a Project Officer was appointed. Donald Macpherson, who is an experienced local paddle guide, was recruited in Autumn 2009 and started as the Project Officer in January 2010.

Along with the planning and managing the installation of the Canoe Trail infrastructure, Donald led the production of two new resources for the canoeists taking to the Trail : writing the completed guidebook and filming the DVD along with industry collegues Nancy Chambers (Glenmore Lodge) and Dave Rossetter (Standing Waves).

Donald's contract as Project Officer finished at the end of March 2012, although he's often seen paddling the Great Glen with his outdoor activity business, and for pleasure!

60 miles in 5 days

It is an epic 60 mile (95km) journey crossing Scotland in 5 days and conquering the formidable open waters of Loch Lochy and Loch Ness, a challenge in itself.

From South to North

It is normally easier to paddle the Trail from Fort William in the west to Inverness in the east with the prevailing wind behind you.
