Trail Joins a New Family

Trail Joins a New Family

Thu 25 Oct 2012

We're delighted to announce that the Great Glen Canoe Trail is the first water route to be accepted into the 'family' of Scotland's Great Trails - 23 nationally-promoted routes for people-powered journeys. Each is distinctively waymarked, largely off-road and has a range of visitor services. At least 25 miles in length, they are suitable for multi-day outings as well as day trips. Collectively the different routes provide over 1500 miles of well managed paths (and canal and lochs!) from the Borders to the Highlands, offering great opportunities to explore the best of Scotland's nature and landscapes and to experience our amazing history and culture.

60 miles in 5 days

It is an epic 60 mile (95km) journey crossing Scotland in 5 days and conquering the formidable open waters of Loch Lochy and Loch Ness, a challenge in itself.

From South to North

It is normally easier to paddle the Trail from Fort William in the west to Inverness in the east with the prevailing wind behind you.
