Access to the composting toilets at the Trailblazer Rest sites is by key available for rent during your visit for £10 per person (under 12s free) from the Corpach Sea Lock office, Fort William. Canal and Sea Lock opening hours are available here. They are also available from the Canal Office at Seaport Marina in Inverness. All income from key rental goes straight back into the servicing and maintenance of the composting toilets and Trailblazer Rest sites. The £10 fee also gives access to all the Caledonian Canal facility blocks.
Limited wild camping
Wayfarers should be aware that the Trailblazer Rest sites haven't been designed as full-service campsites - they are small waterside sites suitable for individuals or small groups with 1 or 2 man tents, and staying for single nights only. Larger groups or those wishing to camp for more than 1 night should book into one of the Glen's commercial campsites instead. As space at the Trailblazer Rest sites is limited Wayfarers should have a 'Plan B' option for each of their overnight stops in case their preferred spot is full when they arrive. ** A brand new commercial campsite opened at Foyers in July 2013.
Leave No Trace
We ask users to respect the beautiful natural environment of the Great Glen by leaving no trace of their visits to the Trailblazer Rest sites. Please pick up and pack out your litter (and anyone else's too please!) until it can be disposed of appropriately. Trailblazers not wishing to pay for access to the composting toilets should take every care to follow guidelines on reducing 'poo-llution'
The Great Glen Canoe Trail partnership would like to acknowledge the generous support of the following activity companies who are helping us to service and care for the Trailblazer Rest sites.
